SCENE:  ROGER and HOLLY arrive at the hotel in Costa Verde, and are still arguing as ROGER asks for BLAKE's room number:

HOLLY:  I'm not going to interfere, if that's what you think. She needs me too. I'm her mother.

ROGER [taking her aside]: You don't seem to understand.  I'm not here because I'm her "daddy". I didn't come down here to kiss a boo-boo. I'm a professional, I'm dealing with a dangerous situation.

HOLLY:  Then I'll kiss the boo-boo.

ROGER:  You are impossible.

HOLLY:  Look, I know this is not kid stuff. All the more reason she needs me here to take care of her while you take care of this other matter.

ROGER:  You get in the way even for an instant, and you are outta here. Got it?

HOLLY:  Don't talk ...[she fights her natural instinct to argue with him, and instead smiles and becomes instantly agreeable] Yes, I understand.

They head for BLAKE's room, where both ROGER and HOLLY are shocked to see GARY.

SCENE: BLAKE’S hotel room in Costa Verde.  BLAKE’S story about ALAN-MICHAEL’S kidnapping hasn’t made sense so far, and why GARY is hanging around puzzles ROGER.  ROGER has also noticed that GARY’S arm is wounded, although GARY has done his best to hide that fact.

ROGER sends GARY and HOLLY out for a “walk on the beach,” and sets to work to find out the truth from BLAKE.

ROGER:  So, you called Gary because you needed a friend.  Then why did you shoot him?

BLAKE [trying to laugh this off]:  Shot?  Gary wasn’t shot!  What are you talking about?

ROGER: Gary is favoring his right shoulder very heavily.  He reeks of antiseptic.

BLAKE:  Oh, that was the accident, see ...

ROGER:  There ... Hold it, hold it, hold it!  There is a bullet hole right over there. [He points to the wall.]  Now, judging from your height and his, I’d say you plugged him. Now stop feeding me this garbage, and tell me what happened.

BLAKE:  Oh, I’m embarrassed ... I bought ... I got scared because Alan-Michael was gone, and I bought this gun, and then Gary ...

ROGER:  Blake, STOP IT!!  You thought he took Alan-Michael.  That’s why you called him, isn’t it?

BLAKE:  Dad, how could he have? He was in the United States ...

ROGER:  You thought he did it.  Please tell me why.

BLAKE:  Dad, I don’t know what you’re talking about ...

ROGER:  DAMN IT!  Listen to me!! If Alan-Michael has a shot in hell of getting out of this alive, you have to tell me everything!! You understand?

BLAKE nods.

ROGER:  Yes? Okay. Let’s try this again.  You didn’t call Gary because he’s your good buddy, did you?

BLAKE shakes her head.

BLAKE:  I hate him.  When he found out about Alan-Michael and me, he went nuts.  It was bad.

ROGER:  How bad?

BLAKE:  He threatened me.

ROGER [looking gently at her]: And he did more than that, didn’t he?

They sit down together on the bed.  ROGER touches her face tenderly.

ROGER:  What?

BLAKE:  On the night of the Towers opening, Gary tied me up in the boiler room, the room where Neil died.

ROGER is stunned.

ROGER begins to pace around the room.

BLAKE:  Dad?

ROGER:  What does Gary have on you?

BLAKE:  What?

ROGER:  There’s a reason you haven’t turned him in.  I want it.

BLAKE:  Turned him in?

ROGER:  If he tied you up and left you in the boiler room, he knew about the bomb. He’s the one who should be standing trial right now, not Phillip.

BLAKE:  We don’t know that.

ROGER:  Okay, at least it would be a very convenient way to get rid of him. You say you hate him so much ... why didn’t you do it?

BLAKE [evasive again]:  I didn’t think. I’ve been so busy planning the wedding, and ...

ROGER:  BLAKE!! GOD!!

BLAKE:  Dad, I’m trying, but you’re getting very mad at me ...

ROGER [exasperated]:  I’m not getting mad. Okay, I’m not getting mad.  I’m not, but if you don’t stop lying to me, I’m sure as hell going to be!  Now tell me why you didn’t tell anybody about Gary?

BLAKE [as if it makes perfect sense]:  Well, he came back and he got me.

ROGER:  He ties you up and leaves you in the boiler room, and then he changes his mind?  Why?

BLAKE:  He obviously felt bad about it.  Gary’s not a killer.

ROGER:  And I'm the Easter bunny.  Come on!

BLAKE:  This is the worst part of all.

ROGER:  Oh, good. Then that’s the part I really have to know.

BLAKE:  Gary has me on tape.  Oh, okay, back up.  When Alan-Michael and I started seeing each other, Harley got suspicious.  So, she went to the apartment where we met, and she put in a video camera.  So, he got me on tape.

ROGER: Harley was always ... resourceful. [a pause] So what?  That doesn’t make any difference now.

BLAKE:  Well, at the end of the tape, it shows me taking the home pregnancy test ...

ROGER:  And?

BLAKE:  I cheated.

ROGER [calmly]:  You’re not pregnant?

BLAKE:  Dad, I would have done anything. I loved Alan-Michael; I would have done anything!

ROGER:  That’s on the tape?  You rigging it?

BLAKE:  He’s got proof, and it just drove him crazy, because he can see how much I love Alan-Michael.  I would do anything for him. So that’s why I called him, because I knew he had taken Alan-Michael, and I was going to kill him!  But now, no, now, I don’t have to, because he doesn’t have him.  I got the ransom letter; he gave me back the tape; I cut it up this morning.  And I think he means it, about loving me.

ROGER [shaking his head]: Blake!

BLAKE:  Dad, I know it’s hard for you to believe anything I could say right now, but believe me, I love Alan-Michael!  And I will do whatever it takes. Please, please Dad ... please just get him back.

ROGER:  Sssh! [holding her] It’s okay.  You’ve got to do everything I tell you from now on, okay?  And you can start by telling me everything that you’ve done up until now.

BLAKE:  I really messed up, didn’t I?

ROGER:  Sssh!  It’s okay.  Daddy’s here.

After HOLLY and GARY return to the hotel room,  ROGER "persuades" GARY that he should head back to Springfield because he's needed at Spaulding Enterprises.  Putting a "friendly" arm around GARY, ROGER applies pressure where he knows GARY was shot.

ROGER assures GARY: I won't forget what kind of friend you've been to Blake.

GARY [wincing]: It's been my pleasure.

ROGER: I'm beginning to see you in an entirely different light.

Meanwhile, HOLLY goes back to the hotel's main desk.

HOLLY:  I'd like Room 107. That's the one adjoining my daughter, isn't it?  [She gets out some cash, which she waves in front of the desk clerk].  One more thing. If her father asks, I understand that all the other rooms in the hotel are booked.

CLERK:  Ah, no senora, we still have plenty of room.

HOLLY:  Ah, wrong answer. [She gets out another bill]. Think again?

CLERK [smiling]:  You are correct, senora. You've just taken the last room.

GARY has left, and back in BLAKE's room, BLAKE tells ROGER that GARY made copies of the videotape, and that she should've killed him.

As BLAKE falls into his arms, ROGER reassures her:  "Oh honey, don't worry. We're going to make him pay.

Later, back at the hotel desk, HOLLY watches nervously as ROGER tries to check in:

CLERK:  I'm sorry Senor Thorpe. We don't seem to have a record of your reservation.

ROGER:  Well I'm sure my secretary called.  Doesn't matter. Look, I'll take anything you have available, preferably something near my daughter.

CLERK: Oh, I've just given the room adjoining your daughter's to Senora Lindsey.  I'm afraid that is our last room.

ROGER:  What?!  Now, wait a minute.  [ROGER turns away, taking out a wad of cash] I mean, I'm sure ... that you can find me a room somewhere?

CLERK: I would like to be able to help you, but I'm afraid that I have [looking at HOLLY and grimacing, none too pleased] ... no more rooms.

ROGER:  [counting out cash]  Well ...

HOLLY reacts quickly, reaching out to settle the matter:

HOLLY:
It's all right Roger ... one room will be fine.
