SCENE: Several days later, in ROGER's office at Spaulding Enterprises. ROGER's secretary EVIE has finally located BLAKE. She's handing him the phone, and he hears a frantic BLAKE ... BLAKE: Who is this? Please don't hang up, just tell me what you want! ROGER [taking the phone]: Hang up?
Thank you Evie? Honey, it took Evie all morning to track you down. I'm not
hanging up until I find out how that son-in-law of mine is treating you.
Everything okay? [getting only silence] Blake? ROGER: Is something wrong? BLAKE: I tried calling you yesterday
but I couldn't reach you. BLAKE: Alan-Michael's been kidnapped.
BLAKE: Dad, I'm so scared. ROGER: Honey, you stay put. I'm on my way. Now you are not to worry, I'll take care of everything. BLAKE: Thanks, Dad. ROGER: Now you listen. You get some rest. I'll be there soon. ROGER hangs up and immediately makes another call ... Meanwhile at WSPR, HOLLY is in the midst of
yet another pow wow with Alexandra, discussing their "plan": HOLLY: I know who I'm dealing with. Don't worry. I'll have a Doberman in my bag. As the phone rings ... HOLLY [to Alex]: Excuse me. [Picking up the phone]: Holly Lindsey.
ROGER: Hello Holly. HOLLY: Roger. HOLLY: What? Tell me. ROGER: I'd rather not tell you over the phone. Um, can you come by my office. I'm pressed for time. HOLLY: Yes, I'll be right over.
HOLLY [entering his office, and in a good mood]: Thank you, Evie. [To ROGER] You found Blake? ROGER [very soberly]: Yes. I’m on my way to see her now. HOLLY [a bit facetiously]: She doesn’t want to see you; she’s on her honeymoon. ROGER: I have bad news. HOLLY [instantly worried]: What? About Blake? ROGER: Sit down. HOLLY [still standing]: What? ROGER: The reason she sounded so upset when you talked to her, is that Alan-Michael’s been kidnapped. HOLLY:
What? I don’t believe it.
Who told you that? They’re on their honeymoon. ROGER tries to touch her shoulder in a comforting gesture, but HOLLY instinctively flinches.
ROGER: Sorry. ROGER: I’m surprised you think I can. HOLLY: Let’s not fight. This is our daughter we’re talking about. What do you say?
ROGER: You don’t usually acknowledge me in any of that. HOLLY: She needs us. She needs both of us. ROGER looks into HOLLY’S eyes as the scene closes, and the episode ends.
Friday, July 6, 1990 SCENE: The Spaulding Jet. ROGER sits with headphones on, in a meditative pose. Suddenly, a pair a hands reach from behind him and pull them off of his head. He's startled to see HOLLY, who takes a seat across from him, and leans back a bit flippantly.
HOLLY: This seat taken? ROGER : How’d you get on board? HOLLY: It wasn’t hard; the security’s pretty lax. The luggage was a bit of a trick, though. [ROGER has gotten up.] Where are you going? ROGER: To tell the pilot to turn around. HOLLY: Don’t waste the time. ROGER: I can’t believe you pulled a stunt like this! HOLLY: You can’t afford to turn around. Blake needs you now! ROGER [sitting back down]: As soon as this plane lands, it’s turning right back around, with you on board.
HOLLY [leaning forward]:
Roger, listen. I’ve got to
be there with her. I’ve been
separated from her for too long.
ROGER looks at her hand on his for a moment. She takes it away.
