SCENE: ALEXANDRA SPAULDING’S heavily decorated boudoir. ALEXANDRA has had a bad morning arguing with ROGER, and as she sits, still in her dressing gown, she hears a knock on the door. HOLLY enters with a purposeful step. HOLLY: Do you know where Blake and Alan-Michael went on their honeymoon? ALEXANDRA: No, why? HOLLY:
They’re having trouble already. HOLLY [bitterly]: Blake just called me and she was crying, but she wouldn’t tell me why. She can only talk to "Daddy" about it. "Daddy’s" the only one who will understand! ALEXANDRA: Isn’t Roger good at that, making people think that they can’t trust anyone but him?! HOLLY: Egotistical, insufferable ALEXANDRA: I know! HOLLY:
I was so convinced he was out of my life.
Oh, who was I kidding? He
has taken away the one precious thing in this world to me ... my girl. ALEXANDRA stands up, faces HOLLY, and says, “I don’t intend to. Let’s stop him.”
HOLLY, peering over horn-rimmed reading
glasses, sits among scattered papers, reading and talking with ALEXANDRA. ALEXANDRA: Of course. He loved me. A skeptical look flickers ever-so-quickly across HOLLY’S face, but ALEXANDRA is too buried in the papers to notice. HOLLY: But if he is unfaithful to you, he loses everything: his stock, Henry’s stock, his job at Spaulding? ALEXANDRA: That’s the point, Holly. HOLLY [laughing]:
Well, was he drunk when he signed it? HOLLY:
But now? HOLLY: It says here that he would have to sign over his half of WSPR to you. ALEXANDRA [smiles]: Yes. HOLLY:
I want it.
HOLLY stands with her back to ALEXANDRA, pondering the idea. ALEXANDRA: So, can you do it? HOLLY [uncomfortably]: Knowing Roger ... probably. ALEXANDRA: I mean, will you? You’ll have to go pretty far. HOLLY looks at ALEXANDRA, and paces the room. HOLLY: Well,
there must be some way, without actually doing anything. HOLLY: Yeah, right. ALEXANDRA: And I’ll need proof, because if he will, and we don’t bring him down, I think I’ll just die. Do you understand? HOLLY [fiercely]: Yes.
ALEXANDRA: So, do we have a deal?
