HOLLY stands at the dresser in 416, wearing a purple negligee and matching wrapper. The door is open, and ROGER comes up to it, but she doesn't see him. The music is sinister as HOLLY steps out onto the private deck, thinking over the evening--and a few other things. First, she recalls the dance cheek to cheek with ROGER, and his gentle way of looking at her. Then, she remembers a moment from many years before, when ROGER had dragged her through the jungles of Santo Domingo. They are wringing each other's necks, and ROGER screams, "If I get out of this I'll kill you for this!!!" At this memory, HOLLY steps back into the room and runs her hands through her hair anxiously. The music changes at this moment; it loses its sinister tone. Finally, HOLLY thinks of a recent conversation with Alex.

ALEXANDRA: I take it you're going to go through with our plan.

HOLLY: Yeah.

ALEXANDRA: I'm scared.

HOLLY: Of the truth?

ALEXANDRA: Of dragging you into this mess. As much as I need to know if Roger can be trusted, I don't want to jeopardize your relationship with Ross.

HOLLY: Roger is the only jeopardy to my relationship with Ross. And I'm gonna to put an end to it.

HOLLY seems sad, anxious.

ROGER taps at the open door. He can't see her, so he steps in.

ROGER: Holly?

HOLLY stands, still lost in her reverie. ROGER stops short at the sight of HOLLY in her negligee. She looks at him. He steps a little forward--confused--and then stops again. ROGER opens his mouth as though to say something, but cannot.

HOLLY: I wasn't expecting you.

ROGER: Uh . . . Look, I'm sorry. The door was open, and I uh . . .

HOLLY: Oh, no. Don't apologize. I was waiting for housekeeping to send up some towels.

ROGER: Um, look, I just wanted to make sure you were all right. I came back to the table after making the call and you were gone, so--

HOLLY: I'm sorry. I figured you'd be gone for a while. How's Alex?

ROGER nods, but then says, "I don’t know. She wasn't there." [Depressed, mocking laugh]" She never seems to be there."

HOLLY: I'm sorry. Is there anything I can do?

ROGER [shaking his head]: Nah. Anyway, um, see you in the morning. Okay?

HOLLY: Good night. Thank you for a lovely evening.

ROGER: Oh please, the pleasure was all mine.

ROGER makes a point of shutting her outer door (the one he came in through) before going into his own room through the door connecting their two rooms. As soon as he leaves, HOLLY goes to phone and leaves a message for Alexandra, that "Everything is going as planned."

ROGER, back in his darkened room, lies down to go to sleep. His phone rings. It's HOLLY, who is also in bed. The music in this scene is sinister, and HOLLY looks like a classic femme fatale.

ROGER: Hello?

HOLLY: Roger?

ROGER: Hi, Holly.

HOLLY: I hope I didn't wake you.

ROGER: No, no. I was, you know . . . meditating.

HOLLY: Well, I'm sorry for deserting you at dinner tonight. I'll make it up to you tomorrow, I promise.

ROGER: Holly, you don't have to make anything up to me.

HOLLY: No, I want to. For old time's sake. Good night.

ROGER: Good night.
