ROGER and HOLLY are at her house. Roger arrived not-so-early
in the morning and still got her out of a warm bed. He was worried and wondering why she
hadn't bothered to show up at the office yet again. HOLLY is still in the funk that
began when she found out about by BLAKE's affair with ROSS. They'd spent the morning
trading barbs and discussing the union contract situation at WSPR; Gilly also stopped by
to talk to HOLLY about the problems at the station. Now, however, GILLY has left,
and HOLLY comes back into the living room, after changing clothes; the tone is quiet and
less argumentative between ROGER and HOLLY, his concern for her is apparent.

HOLLY: Is Gilly gone?
ROGER: Yes, she had to get to work.
HOLLY: Right, she's got that extra heavy workload thanks to irresponsible me.
ROGER: You're not irresponsible Holly.
HOLLY: I don't like feeling this way, you know?
ROGER: Yes, I know.
HOLLY: I just ... sometimes I ... I don't have the energy to go to another room to get a magazine. I just wake up in the morning and I have some coffee and before I know it it's dinnertime. I'm just too tired to eat, I'm just too tired from ... from doing nothing.
ROGER: Listen ... have you been to a doctor?
HOLLY: I don't need vitamins. I need to know what I'm going to be when I grow up.
[The phone rings; Holly gets up and answers it]
HOLLY: Hello
BLAKE [quietly, tentative]: Mom? Hi, it's me.
HOLLY: Blake?
[Cut to ROGER's surprise that Blake is calling, then the scene ends].

NEXT SCENE ...
[BLAKE has told HOLLY the news]
HOLLY: Oh, I can't believe it.
ROGER [from behind Holly]: What?!

HOLLY: Is anybody else ... is Ed OK?
BLAKE: He was in a separate car, but he found her. He's in pretty bad shape.
HOLLY: Oh ... Michelle?
ROGER [anxious]: What happened?
BLAKE: She stayed over at my house last night.
Ed just told her a little while ago. Anyway, um ... the reason that I called was because
... I think it might help Ed if you were here.
HOLLY: Yes. I'll be there right away. Thank you. [She hangs up the phone and then,
without looking at Roger ... ]:
Maureen Bauer was killed in a car crash.
ROGER [shocked, disbelieving]: No!

HOLLY: I've got to get right there and see ...
ROGER [stumbling over his words]: Well ... wait, wait ... what happened? Did she get
to a hospital? Did ... did ... anybody ...

HOLLY [picking up her keys, walking to the
door]: I don't know. I didn't ask her.
ROGER: Wait...wait! I'll drive you.
HOLLY [at the door; she turns to face ROGER]: To the Bauers?
ROGER: Wait! Why not? Maybe I could do something!
HOLLY: Ed isn't going to want you there, Roger.
ROGER: Right! Gonna want you all to himself, right?

HOLLY: Are you crazy?
ROGER: Okay, c'mon, I didn't mean it that way.
HOLLY: What's the matter? Why can't you think about somebody else?

[HOLLY leaves, and ROGER turns around slowly. He steadies himself by putting his hands on the back of the couch, obviously stunned and anguished by the news].
