May 20 is ALS Advocacy Day in
Washington, D.C.
To: All ZazAngels and Michael Zaslow Fans
From: Susan Hufford/ZazAngels New
York
We need you!!! On Wednesday, May 19 at noon, ZazAngels and various other ALS
advocacy groups will march to the steps of the Capitol in Washington, D.C. We are trying
to use Michael's presence, even in his absence, to gain the much needed publicity that
will bring the awareness about ALS which will bring government funding for research which
will in turn result in Michael's dream: A Cure By 2000! Together with other PALS (People
with ALS), we will proceed with an empty wheelchair. On the seat will be Michael's
computer programmed with the speech he gave just one year ago to then-Speaker of the House
Newt Gingrich. Just one year ago Michael stood up and shook Speaker Gingrich's hand. The
message of the empty wheelchair is a powerful one. It is not as easy to get the press to
pay attention now that Michael is not with us -- or with us only in spirit. But we must
try. Michael would love nothing more than to contribute, to be a part of this fight. We
are trying to get as much press as possible and hoping that some daytime stars and other
celebrities will be present.
It
is urgent that we move as quickly as the disease. It is urgent that we get more funds for
research now! It is imperative that H.R. 353, legislation designed to help those diagnosed
with ALS, be passed immediately. The more people we have marching with Michael's chair,
the more emphatic will be our message. I urge anyone who is near Washington, D.C. to
join us. Or for that matter, anyone, anywhere, so moved. You can make a difference!
We march on the 19th and on the 20th we lobby Senate and House members. Come for one or both. For more information please call the ALS Advocacy Day toll-free hotline at 877-444-ALSA.
Tell them you will be Marching with Michael!
