DAVID AND JENNY GET MARRIED
June 1, 1984

"All I want it to be ... is you and me."

Jenny to David, explaining she wants to get married tonight, without telling anyone.

Jenny and David were originally supposed to get married in February.  But Dorian, who  was in love with David, and Brad, who was in love with Jenny, schemed together to keep them apart.

So, courtesy of Dorian and Brad, a "long-lost wife" (who wasn't ... really) interrupted David and Jenny's first big church wedding. However, this didn't accomplish the goal of breaking them up.  Ever  the opportunist,  Dorian seized a golden opportunity when an incident which David had nothing to do with left her paralyzed; she fell down a flight of stairs, and David found her and called an ambulance.  Dorian feigned no memory of what caused her to fall, but privately she told Jenny that David had pushed her down the stairs following an angry confrontation over his suspicions that she was responsible for the wedding fiasco.   Dorian told Jenny that she would not tell the police what happened if Jenny would quit seeing David.  Devastated (and obviously not thinking too clearly!), Jenny broke up with David, who was left heartbroken and "utterly bewildered" about what exactly had happened.

True love prevailed, however, and on June 1, 1984, the depth of Dorian's deceptions have finally come to light.  Jenny and David have been back together for several weeks, but on this day she's told him exactly what Dorian's been up to for months, and that she wants to get married, not two weeks from now, on June 15, as they'd planned, but tonight.

This time, it's not a big wedding. Just Jenny, David, a priest, Larry as best man and Cassie as maid of honor.  Accompanied by Pachebel's Canon in D ...

SCENE:  The Chapel At St. Barnabus, Llanview, PA.

Father Campion:  Dear friends, we are gathered together in the presence of God and these witnesses, to join together this man and this woman in the bonds of holy matrimony, which is a holy estate, blessed by God, and graced by our Lord’s presence at the wedding at Canaan in Galilee …

Next Scene:

Father Campion:  Let us pray. Oh God, graciously give to David and Jenny a true concept of the obligations they are now about to assume. May they pledge their faith, and henceforth remain loyal to each other for as long as they both shall live. Through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.

Do you, David, take Jenny to be your wedded wife, to have and to hold from this day forward, for better or for worse, for richer or for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish for as long as you both shall live?

David:  I do.

Father Campion:  And do you, Jenny, take David to be your husband, to have and to hold from this day forward, for better or for worse, for richer or for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish for as long as you both shall live?

Jenny:  I do.

Father Campion:  The rings, please.

David takes the ring, nervously clears his throat, presses his hand to his chest and smiles at Jenny before placing it on her finger.  As Jenny puts his on, he quietly says, “I may have to help you”, and she smiles and gently caresses his face.

David and Jenny, inasmuch as you have consented to live together in holy wedlock, and have witnessed the same before God and these witnesses, as a minister of the Church, and by the authority vested in me by the laws of this State, I do hereby pronounce you husband and wife, in the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit. What therefore God has joined together, let no man put asunder.

The Lord bless you, and keep you, the Lord let His face shine upon you, the Lord lift up His countenance upon you and grant you His peace.

Amen.

You may kiss the bride.

Fade out on David and Jenny’s smiles, laughter and embrace.
