GL's HOLLY DROPPED
Soap Opera Digest
March 4, 2003

GUIDING LIGHT veteran Maureen Garrett (Holly) has been dropped to recurring status, effective immediately. What does this mean for the future of Holly? "I have no idea," shares the actress. "I wasn't told anything beyond that they have no story for me now."

Although Garrett is uncertain about how much airtime Holly will receive in the future, she's open to returning whenever she's needed. "Would I come back for recurring? Sure. Holly is a fascinating, complex character. I think the writers must enjoy writing for her sometimes, and I have certainly enjoyed playing her, " She notes. "So, sure, I'll do it again. But I am excited about seeing what else I may do with my life -- so off we go."

In 1976, Garrett took over the role from Lynn Deerfield and quickly made Holly her own. She left in 1981, made a brief appearance in December, 1988 and returned the following year as a contract player, which she has been ever since. As for her time with GL, Garrett smiles, "I loved the ensemble, I always have. I loved it in theater and I loved it here, and that's why I stayed so long."

A P&G spokesperson had no comment.
