A Friday Cliffhanger ...
 November 3, 1990

SCENE: The "honeymoon cottage." A bedroom with an open terrace. Inside the bedroom, a large bed, a table with a tablecloth and chairs, and a dresser. Everything is colorful and intimate. ROGER, HOLLY, and the PROPRIETOR enter through a door on the right.

HOLLY: Oh, it's lovely!

PROPRIETOR: You like it?

HOLLY: Lovely!

PROPRIETOR: Gracias.

ROGER (to HOLLY, speaking of the luggage): Ah, where do you want these?

HOLLY (other things are on her mind): Anywhere.

PROPRIETOR: It's our most romantic honeymoon cottage.

At this, ROGER looks up at HOLLY.

HOLLY: Perfect.

PROPRIETOR: You have a beautiful view of the sea, and the bougainvillea are most fragrant this time of year. Anyway, I hope you and your husband will be very happy here.

HOLLY looks into ROGER'S eyes as she tells the PROPRIETOR: I hope so, too.

PROPRIETOR: Now, if you need anything, I am at the main house, up the hill. Your meals will be prepared there, but served here of course. When would you like breakfast?

ROGER looks vaguely aware that he might say something, but HOLLY'S way of staring into his eyes has him too distracted, so HOLLY answers.

HOLLY: We'll call you.

PROPRIETOR: Of course. Buenos noches.

ROGER "comes to" long enough to tip the PROPRIETOR.

ROGER: Buenos noches.

PROPRIETOR: Gracias, senor.

ROGER (seeing him out): Good night.

HOLLY, in the meantime, has surveyed the bed and found it to her liking. She settles herself across it with a feline air (encouraged, no doubt, by the dress!), and pulls off her shoes as she says . . .

Well, alone at last!

ROGER: Funny we still look married.

HOLLY: I registered us as man and wife.

ROGER: Oh, of course. [swallows nervously, and then gesturing towards the luggage] What do you want me to do with these?

HOLLY: Just leave it.

HOLLY invitingly caresses the spot beside her on the bed. ROGER clears his throat, and says . .

I feel like a bridegroom . . . a teenage bridegroom. I don't have any idea what to do next.

HOLLY [smiles knowingly]: I'm sure it'll all come back to you.

ROGER slowly and boyishly smiles back.

ROGER goes back to the luggage -- his only link to normalcy -- and opens it. HOLLY gets up, takes him by the wrist, and turns him to her. For a long moment, they stare into each other's eyes. ROGER looks bewitched.

Realizing that he is too stunned to make the first move, HOLLY takes his face in her hands and kisses him, then putting her arms tightly around his neck. ROGER returns her kiss and pulls her body against his as the scene fades.
