Holly Norris was the daughter of Stanley and Barbara Norris. Roger Thorpe was an ambitious young employee of Stanley's and Holly was very attracted to him. Roger was making advances toward Janet Mason while he also maintained a fluctuating romance with the neurotic and insecure Holly. Holly was so upset to see Roger exiting Janet's apartment one day that she ran into the street and was hit by a car, leaving her unable to walk. Young Dr. Ed Bauer took a special interest in Holly, believing her problem was depression and not physical. She began to walk again.

When Ed was on the rebound from Janet, he married Holly in a drunken stupor. He apologized for his drunken actions and suggested an annulment. She lied and said they had consummated the marriage. Holly couldn't get Roger out of her system, however, and did her best to ruin his relationships with other women. When Roger started dating Peggy Fletcher, who was in the process of getting a divorce, Holly spent her time telling him how bad Peggy was for him. Holly and Roger soon started having an affair. When Peggy's divorce became final, Roger planned to end the affair with Holly and marry Peggy.

Holly found out she was pregnant with Roger's child but managed to get Ed to believe the child was his. When Christina became ill and needed a blood transfusion, the truth came out. Ed threatened to tell Peggy if Roger didn't. Roger did, she forgave him, and they later married. Ed developed an interest in nurse Rita Stapleton and they grew close as he came as he came to realize his marriage to Holly was over. Ed and Holly divorced.

When Ed married Rita, Holly started dating Roger again, who by this time was divorced from Peggy. Roger and Holly later married but she was not happy with him and did not tell Christina who her real father was. Roger grew angry and abusive and raped Holly. She did not back down and filed charges against Roger for marital rape. He was found guilty and a bond was posted for him. Roger went on a rampage, threatening everyone. When he started to beat Ed, Holly re-lived the rape and shot Roger three times. She was subsequently convicted of murder and went to jail --- but Roger wasn't dead!

Alan Spaulding helped Roger get to a private clinic in Puerto Rico where he plotted to get Christina, and revenge on Ed and Holly. Roger first tried to kidnap Christina at the Cedar's Charity Ball but failed. When Roger was discovered to be alive, Ed flew Holly and Christina to Santo Domingo for their safety. Roger had tapped Ed's phone though and was in the Dominican Republic to greet them. He again tried to take Christina but Holly distracted him and Christina escaped.

Roger dragged Holly through the jungle with Ed and Mike Bauer in pursuit. Roger and Holly argued and Mike and Ed caught up. Roger shot Ed in the arm while Mike got away with Holly. A struggle ensued, and Roger nearly fell off a cliff. His only hope for survival was Ed, who struggled to pull him back up. Roger slipped from Ed's grip and with a horrible scream, he plunged to his presumed death.
