Before Peggy Fletcher got to know the “new” Roger Thorpe, he was the last man in the world she wanted to see, much less love.

His reputation as woman-user and all-around troublemaker preceded him. Following his third-party role in a marital split, Roger left town and went through a tough period of self-examination.

Nurse Peggy Fletcher had waited years for her husband, Dr. John Fletcher, to return to her, but all hopes were in vain.

Upon returning to town, Roger Thorpe was a new man, feeling guilt over his past deeds. He got to Peggy through her young son, Billy, who was in desperate need of a father. At first she fought attraction to him, but once convinced he truly was a changed man, fell in love with him.

Roger could not so easily dismiss his former lifestyle, as hoods he had had past dealings with threatened the lives of Peggy and Billy. Frightened, she tried to break off with Roger, but her love for him overruled her caution.

They plan to marry soon. But Peggy is unaware of everything in Roger’s past. While she knows that her fiancé had an affair with Holly, Peggy doesn’t know he is the father of her child.
