Following Roger's fall off the cliff in Santo Domingo, Holly
eventually decided to leave Springfield, and she and Christina moved to Switzerland.
Everyone assumed Roger was dead, but that was not the case. He survived the fall (he
"bounced"), and was rescued by a man named Vaughn who "put him back
together", but not without a price. Roger was trained to become a CIA agent assigned
to covert operations. His assignments took him to the Middle East as well as Eastern and
Western Europe.
During this time, Roger became romantically involved with Laura Jessup, another CIA agent
who was also his superior. They were separated, however, and Roger didn't learn that she
was pregnant with his child. She was later presumed dead. Roger's CIA assignments
eventually led him to Switzerland, where he lived for several years.
Holly met Dietrich Lindsey, a prominent businessman. Though Holly did not love
him, she
eventually married him to achieve some financial security for herself and Christina.
Dietrich owned several radio stations, and Holly built broadcasting experience working at
one of his stations, occasionally doing the news broadcasts.
Roger became aware of Holly and Christina's presence in Switzerland. He missed his
daughter terribly and began to keep in touch in his own way, from afar. He was always
careful to keep his distance for fear that if Holly ever found out he was alive and
nearby, she would immediately take Chrissy away. Once he caught a glimpse of Chrissy
across a train platform. He even managed to go to her boarding school graduation without
being noticed.
As Christina grew older her relationship with Holly became strained, and she eventually
decided to leave Switzerland and return to Springfield. Holly remained in Switzerland,
while Roger's life with The Agency took him to a new assignment in the Caribbean.
When Christina arrived in Springfield she went by the name Blake Lindsey (Blake being her
middle name). She immediately caught the eye of Phillip Spaulding. It was subsequently
revealed that Blake was in reality Christina Thorpe, daughter of Roger and Holly. And
their Springfield Story was about to begin again ...
