"Michael brought such a
wonderful, complicated, intense presence
to our show for many years. And he was ripped away from us."

CLOSURE, AT LAST
It's been more than five years since actor Michael Zaslow died of Lou Gehrig's disease, and Guiding Light is only now killing off his villainous character, Roger Thorpe. The death will be announced September 28 by a stranger named Sebastian, who will later turn out to be Roger's son. The twist will also bring Maureen Garrett out of storyline Siberia. The much-loved actress played Roger's soul mate, Holly, for more than two decades. "Half the fan mail I get still talks about their relationship -- as dark and dysfunctional as it was," Garrett says. "People have never given up hope that the writers would reunite us. In a way, they'll get their wish because Roger will be haunting Holly." The trick will be achieved by using old Zaslow clips. ----- Michael Logan, On Soaps, TV Guide, September 26, 2004.

"We thought that Holly and Roger were one of the most important stories in Guiding Light history, but it was something that never got a chance to be tied up. The feelings that Holly has for Roger were left hanging when Roger left the show. Bringing those two to a conclusion was a motivation for the story, but recasting Roger was not an option. Michael Zaslow is simply irreplaceable." David Kreizman, Guiding Light Headwriter, September 2004.
