SCENE: Roger’s office at Spaulding Enterprises.  Roger’s day hasn’t started particularly well. After spending a few days out of town "to sort things out" and returning to an unpleasant confrontation with ALEXANDRA, he has gone to the office to begin picking up the pieces from the Towers disaster.  EVIE, his secretary, finds him looking out of the window at the Towers.

EVIE:  Mr. Thorpe!  Nobody said . . . I didn’t realize you were here today.

ROGER:  I’ll be here all day, every day.

EVIE:  Well, uh, good . . . [handing him the mail].  Can I get you anything?

ROGER:  Yes, I’d like all the correspondence from the last few days—marketing figures, and all the publicity on the Towers opening.

EVIE:  Right away.  [She turns and walks toward the door, but pauses a moment, and looks at ROGER again.  She wants to be tactful, but sympathetic, so she says only:]  It’s a shame, sir.

ROGER:  What?

EVIE:  That you couldn’t get the Towers back.

ROGER [sparely, but recognizing her consideration for his feelings]:  Thank you, Evie.

As EVIE is leaving, HOLLY enters the room.

HOLLY:  Sorry to barge in.  There was no one at reception.

ROGER:  It’s all right, Evie.  It’s okay.

EVIE [leaving]:  I’ll get right on this.

ROGER [To HOLLY]:  Well ... It must be pretty bad for you to come here.

HOLLY:  I don’t ... it could be ... it’s about Blake.

ROGER:  Oh, yes.  You feel that she’s “ruined herself” and Alan-Michael.  I don’t.

HOLLY:  It’s more than that.  She called me, Roger.  She’s really upset.

ROGER:  You expect her to be happy with you?

HOLLY: It’s not about me. At least, it wasn’t to start with.

ROGER finally turns and really looks at HOLLY.

ROGER:  Is she all right?

HOLLY:  I don’t know.  But she sounded really bad.  I need to talk with her again.  Please just ... do you know where she is?

ROGER:  No.  [ROGER picks up his phone.] Evie, check the log on the Spaulding jet and find out where Alan-Michael and Blake went.  And if they didn’t take the jet, then start checking around with the travel agencies and see who booked the trip. This is top priority.  Thank you.

ROGER rather dismissively tells HOLLY, “I’ll find her” and sits down at his desk.

HOLLY pauses for a brief second, and replies, “Thank you.”  She is trying to figure out how to continue the conversation, since she knows that she has plenty of ice to break before she can seduce ROGER.

ROGER [shrugs]:  I’ll let you know.

HOLLY steps up on the dais where ROGER’S desk is.

HOLLY: So, how are you doing?

ROGER [casting a sharp look at her]:  What?

HOLLY [she's looking not at Roger, but out the window at the building he lost] :  How are you?  It must have been horrible, losing the Towers.

ROGER [shocked, and a little offended]:  Do I hear pity coming from you?

HOLLY:  Maybe.

ROGER [coldly]:  Save it.  I have work to do.

ROGER looks at his papers; HOLLY freezes for a moment, then turns away and leaves.
